The Honorary Grace and Grits Fund
The Grace and Grits Fund was established in October 2020 by Palmetto Cheese and the Henry family. This fund was created to honor the memory of Vertrella Brown who died in April 2020. Raised in the Low Country of South Carolina and a cook for more than 40 years, Vertrella specialized in Gullah and Southern Cuisine. She personified the soulful flavor that is embodied in Sassy Henry’s unique, southern recipe of pimento cheese.
Annual contributions from the Grace and Grits Fund will be directed to organizations and programs that support social justice initiatives, after-school programs, culinary and entrepreneurial pursuits, and underserved members of the local community.
